Zay Woods Named Second Team All-GAC

Woods (Lambda Kappa 2K25) played in all 11 games this season while recording 25 tackles with 16 being solo, and co-led the team with four interceptions and four breakups.

Zay Woods has carved out a reputation as one of Southern Arkansas University’s most reliable and instinctive defensive backs. Woods blends length, discipline, and a receiver’s mentality—traits that allowed him to steadily evolve into a fully realized defensive playmaker by his senior year. By the time Woods reached his senior year, he had emerged as one of SAU’s most productive defensive backs.

One of his best games came in November 2025, when Woods delivered a standout performance in a 16–14 win over Southeastern Oklahoma State:

  • 6 tackles (4 solo)
  • 1 tackle for loss
  • 1 interception, returned 26 yards>

The interception was a pivotal momentum swing and marked one of eight career picks, according to regional reporting from KLTV.

His play didn’t go unnoticed—conference media and SAU’s own athletics channels repeatedly spotlighted Woods in highlight reels, including multiple games featuring interceptions and big defensive stops.

By the end of his collegiate career, Woods has become a respected leader in the Muleriders’ secondary. His own reflection on Instagram—”walking off the field for the last time”—reflects a senior closing his playing chapter with a body of work rooted in discipline, growth, and quiet excellence.
