Interview with Brother Taurus Freeman

Brother Taurus Freeman (Lambda Kappa Spring ’99) is a true LK Nupe making an impact. Over the years, he has volunteered his time and efforts to Lambda Kappa. Always willing to step up and help with events, coordinate communications for the things happening in the chapter and even manages the member directory.

Let’s get a little insight into Brother Freeman and what he’s all about.

How long have you been a member of Kappa Alpha Psi?

I’ve been a proud member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. for 26 years. I crossed in the Spring of 1999, through the Lambda Kappa Chapter.

Why did you join Kappa Alpha Psi?

I joined Kappa Alpha Psi because I saw excellence personified in the brothers who came before me. They carried themselves with confidence, purpose, and an unshakable bond of brotherhood. I wanted to be part of an organization that emphasized achievement, service, and a legacy bigger than myself.

What’s your favorite part of being a Lambda Kappa Nupe/Kappa?

My favorite part of being a Lambda Kappa Nupe is the lifelong brotherhood. From line brothers to prophytes and neophytes, the support system is unmatched. It’s more than just friendships — it’s a network of men who hold each other accountable, celebrate each other’s wins, and never let one another fall.

Tell me about your life experience as a Kappa over the years.

Being a Kappa has opened doors for me both personally and professionally. I’ve grown as a man, leader, and mentor. Whether it’s been through service, leadership opportunities, or fellowship with brothers across the country, Kappa has been a constant in my life — one that continually pushes me toward excellence. My experience propelled me to become a Life Member and join several alumni chapters in various cities and states throughout my professional journey.

Tell me about your undergraduate experience as a Lambda Kappa Nupe.

My undergrad experience at Lambda Kappa was transformational. We were leaders on campus — hosting programs, mentoring others, and making our presence known in every aspect of student life. We worked hard to uphold the name and reputation of Kappa Alpha Psi, and those years shaped my confidence, discipline, and commitment to service.

What is your current occupation?

Currently, I work as a Program Director for IBTS (Institute for Building Technology and Safety) serving at the City of Central (LA).

What do you love most about what you do?

What I love most is the impact. I get to solve problems, empower others, and see tangible results from the work I put in through service. Practicing servant leadership allows me to uplift others, empower my team, and create space for growth — not just for myself, but for those around me. It’s not about titles or control; it’s about impact, humility, and making sure people have what they need to succeed. That’s what drives me every day. It’s fulfilling to know that what I do matters beyond just a paycheck — it has purpose. That’s what drives me every day.

HOW DO YOU DEFINE SUCCESS?

To me, success is about living a life of purpose. It’s not just about accolades or wealth — it’s about impact, integrity, and leaving things better than you found them. When your work, your relationships, and your values align — that’s success.

WHO INSPIRES YOU?

I’m inspired by those who lead with quiet strength and consistency — people like my father, my mentors, and the brothers who’ve come before me in Kappa. I’m also inspired by underdogs who overcome adversity and rise anyway — that kind of resilience is powerful.

What advice would you give to young Nupes?

Never forget the meaning of the bond you’ve joined. Kappa is not just about the letters — it’s about the legacy. Lead with integrity, give back, stay hungry, and always represent the Diamond with honor. And remember, “Achievement in Every Field of Human Endeavor” isn’t a slogan — it’s a lifestyle.
